Quicken For Mac Review Investments10/24/2021
The Home tab remains the main interface and is designed to provide an easy-to-read financial snapshot. By default it includes spending summaries, bill and income reminders, and your current total-budget status. The icon on this review should show it as Quicken 2018, not Quicken 2017. (Note the 17 in the red Quicken icon) According to the Quicken website the current version of Quicken 2017 is 4.6.8. And the current version for Quicken 2018 is 5.5.3. If this is a review for Quicken 2018, as it appears to be, the icon should be changed.
![]() The interface, although fresh and clean, is sophomoric and basically made for idiots, I thought. And it works just fine. However, after I retired, I'm thinking.why the heck do I need to purchase Parallels and have Quicken Windows as the only Windows software I ever use? So.for a while I beta tested Quicken Mac 2016.and they were kind enough to "gift" me a copy to help them test the product.Of course, I hated it. Basically, because it is.I purchased a Mac Book around 2010.but my business professional software was still Windows.so I was stuck with Quicken for Windows and used and still use Parallels as a virtual Windows machine. To my knowledge, it's never been re-written.just added on to.That's why Quicken Windows looks like it's from the 1990's. And each yearly version added features and conveniences and minor tweaks to the user interface.so the entire code has roots going back that far. Pdf editor for mac reviewI still hated Quicken Mac 2016. A complete mess either way and took me weeks to get it up and running with accurate balances, albeit with broken transfers.Didn't matter. Qif files into the Mac version and just started over with all my investment accounts. Converting my data from Windows to Mac was a mess.and I basically wound up importing all my banking accounts as individual. My Quicken Windows converted in minutes. And towards the end of 2019, they started improving the report engine so at least I could include or exclude transfers in cash flow reports. When my versions of Quicken 2017 (Windows and Mac) were sunsetted and had online services ended, I bit the bullet and purchased a 27 month subscription from Amazon. The initial reporting engine was still horrendous, but I could see very slow improvements being released. ![]() ![]() You have to include each and every category and create some sort of a budgeted amount for each and every category.I don't want that. But why?Second, no budget support for including or excluding transfers in cash flow only accounts, as I noted previously.Third, where the hell does my discretionary non-budgeted spending go in Quicken Mac? No where. That's why converting to Windows is such a disaster. To your point, it's been pointed out that zero budget amounts don't work and the "superusers" recommend putting in a dollar as a budgeted amount. Very laboriously slow.So.I have way too much time on my hands.so I use both versions.PS The conversion of data from Quicken Mac to Quicken Windows has been broken for a zillion years.and Quicken Inc has no desire to fix it. And development is like watching paint dry. But it's not a polished complete software by any means. Quicken Review Investments Update I KeepAs someone in my sixties, I doubt I'll live long enough to actually see it happen. Every Quicken Mac update I keep hoping it will happen, but I've pretty much just given up hope that it ever will. Six years and they can't get to this, despite the Quicken Mac product manager saying for years that it's being addressed. And yet, they haven't been implemented yet.
